With the new “INTX” branding that evoked images of Silicon Valley, was it any wonder that technology innovation was in the spotlight at the cable industry’s annual convention last week?

While there were the expected headline themes—the next steps in M&A, the aftermath of Title II and Comcast’s bold steps to turbocharge its customer service—we heard plenty of technology talk. Even before the show started, Layer3 TV’s Dave Fellows made headlines by joining SCTE’s Energy 2020 program in the role of chief scientist.

My big take-away from attending was that we’re fortunate to have such a connected tech community—from established operators and vendors to the newest innovators—that is constantly reinventing how our industry does things. From ARRIS’ integration of TiVo into selected set-top boxes to Cisco’s shipment of its cBR-8 CCAP system to multiple announcements by operators of new hardware and services, INTX sowed seeds of technology trends that will be in full bloom by the time SCTE Cable-Tec Expo® rolls around Oct. 13-16 in New Orleans. Early-bird registration is available now and ends on June 30.

For those of us who view technology as key to our industry’s evolution, INTX and SCTE Cable-Tec Expo go hand in hand. In the months ahead, SCTE will be building on the forward thinking seen last week at Imagine Park, the Spring Technical Forum, and the INTX exhibit floor to provide the industry with deeper dives at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo. These technology advances will, without a doubt, continue to improve customer experiences, so we hope you are making plans now to attend in October.
